I met Dr. Brandon Baskett while I was in the NACEP Leadership Academy for the 2023-2024 academic year. Dr. Baskett was incredibly generous with the time he spent with me helping me to re-imagine my capstone project. He provided invaluable perspective on evaluating the needs of all stakeholders in the administration and management of a successful Concurrent Enrollment Program. When I was struggling to land my first administrative role, Dr. Baskett was the first person to reach out personally to offer encouragement and guidance. He became my biggest advocate and provided me with specific suggestions on how I could grow as a school leader. He answered every call, every text, and met with me countless times. I’m now in my fifth year as a school leader and was recently named Assistant Principal of the Year for my school district. Dr. Baskett is one of the most genuine, caring, and honest individuals I’ve ever had the privilege to work with. As an aspiring assistant principal, Dr. Baskett took me under his wing and gave me opportunities to shadow him, coached me in handling various situations, and was always available to give me feedback on situations. As I began preparing for interviews, Dr. Baskett gave me tips on how to improve my resume, engaged in mock interviews with me, and coached me in how to think through questions. Most impressively, Dr. Baskett always ensured that I thought and planned ahead, helped me remember to think of those I work with, and reminded me that this position requires you to use the correct leadership style for varying situations.
