The City of Hendersonville was the inaugural City to test the Trash Trout. We worked closely with Asheville GreenWorks to permit and install the first trash capturing device in Mud Creek. Mud Creek is a highly urbanized watershed and the largest conveyor of stormwater trash in our County. City Administration and Hendersonville City Council are in full support of this project. Since it's installation in June of 2017 the Mud Creek Trash Trout has captured 4,300 lbs. of manmade trash, preventing it from reaching the French Broad River. The device has weathered several hurricane related flood events without any difficulties. City Staff and volunteers have been able to maintain the device without any impact to the stormwater operations budget and the device has created numerous opportunities for community engagement and education. The City is very pleased with this program and our partnership with Asheville GreenWorks. We highly recommend installing a Trash Trout in your waterway.
