We have had a couple of 1-2-1 gun dog / obedience training sessions with James. He is very knowledgeable, sensitive, friendly and effective! Within 20 minutes at our first session Dylan was walking to heel. This did not involve fraught yanking at the lead or constant calls to heel. It was like magic - a language Dylan instantly understood. It was so calm and easy. I am so impressed. We will have monthly 1-2-1s now and I can’t wait to see where we end up. Here is a video of us in a field full of delicious gamey smells and scents of other dogs walking to heel without a lead. Look how effortless this is. I enjoy every second of the training and it will enable Dylan to have an enriched life doing what he was bred for. Thank you so much James Here is a pic (couldn’t attach the video) of us in action!

Fantastic place, very friendly staff, and great training tips, our staffy has had some anxiety issues which caused him to chase his tail constantly when people visited or when he got too excited, couldn't have people round due to his behaviour, after 2 121 training sessions with James his behaviour increased dramatically, when people used to come round he wouldn't settle, we once tried to see if he would ever calm down and after 3.5 hours we gave up. First time having people over after this training he laid on his bed and went to sleep after 5 minutes, which he has never done before, cannot thank you enough James, he's a different dog!

We absolutely love walkabout hounds! Dogs love both davina and James, such knowledgeable people with years of experience! We started going with my retriever for fun agility, then when we got a puppy, we did all puppy classes and all obedience classes, she’s the best trained dog we’ve had now! Alongside their knowledge, they are so approachable for any behaviour issues and have nothing but laughs throughout all classes! Thank you James and davina! I would without doubt recommend Walkabout Hounds for food & toy products as well as training services. Daisy has completed puppy level one and is currently taking part in virtual puppy level 2 classes. We really look forward to Monday nights and the new training techniques give us something to focus on. I cannot recommend Walkabout Hounds enough, both James and Davina are excellent dog trainers who are very knowledgeable and patient with training! They are friendly and fun people to be with too and put dogs at ease during class. I’ve taken two dogs here over 4 years and both get very excited to be here and both love to see James! I have attended different classes from obedience to gundog work and all are expertly taught classes. As I say cannot recommend them enough.

We started out at Obedience Class but didn’t feel that this was right for us. WH were very flexible and I was able to swap to another class. I chose an agility 1-1, which was really fun and gave me knowledge of the basics. Davina also gave me general tips to engage my Springer when he got distracted, and to redirect him when he got overexcited and was jumping up and nipping. Looking forward to going back for another 1-1. Meanwhile, I am enjoying the online training tips and challenges. Thanks Davina and James.

We love Walkabout Hounds! When we got our staffy mix puppy, although we were experienced dog owners we both wanted to make sure our puppy had the best possible start in life and was well trained so that no one could accuse him of being a bad dog (as the breed has such negative press about it) Since starting in puppy class at the age of 6 months we've been so impressed by the knowledge and expertise of James and Davina at Walkabout that we've continued up through the ranks of all the training courses. People now comment on how well behaved our now 18 month year old staff, saying how well behaved he is. I credit it all to Walkabouts. There seems to be nothing James and Davina don't know about dogs, and I'm sure anything they don't know isn't worth knowing! They haven't just built a training centre, they've built a doggy community, where like minded people can share tips and ask advice without judgement. Training isn't a chore, it's fun and exciting, for owners and dogs alike.

I wouldn't go anywhere else for out training classes (as I tell everyone I meet!) Both James and Davina are brilliant, I don't know what we would have done without their guidance and support over the last few years.The shop itself is rammed with fabulous natural treats I had never heard of before going to them, now Evie gets a lovely selection everytime we go!

I highly recommend Davina & James for all your training needs. Not only are they amazing dog trainers they are super patient and they will take you through things step by step. I wouldn’t recommend anyone else to any of my clients. They give you the tools you need to be a good dog owner and handler and you can have a good laugh and make some great friends in the process.

Extremely helpful, co-operative, direct but not with the intention of being offensive, motivation being to enhance the relationship between dog handler(s) and dog. Came away with only positive vibes and the can do approach, but directly stating some approaching of mine as the 40 + year old approach had to change towards Saffie, daughter's 2yr old German Shepherd. Looking forward to going again, felt empowered when leaving and felt the can do approach at home too. So Thank You very much both Davina and James.

Can’t rate walkabout hounds enough, been going with our German Shepard from puppy class. He is now 6 months old and doing amazing! And so are we! James is definitely not scared to tell you when you are holding your dog back or teaching him wrong, and when you put the work that you are taught it pays off massively! Thanks James really feel like we turned a corner with Osi tonight, you are firm but definitely fair!

Extremely knowledgeable, honest, friendly, straight talking, fun and always have the dogs best interests at heart. Absolutely fantastic! I won the 121 training session and a massive bag of treats. I learned so much about oscar (my dog) in the1 hour session and everyone at walkabout hounds training centre were brilliant, kind, patient and very passionate. Dora (bouncy & energetic standard labradoodle) and I have attended Puppy and Beginner's Class. Halfway through Beginner's I felt there was a lot of repetition and wasn't too happy but stuck with it. However having now completed Beginner's and looking back at the progress we've made I can totally see the need for repetition, reinforcement, consistency and 'high value treats'. Our bond has increased tenfold and she's come on such a long way. I can also see that she's a much happier and calmer pup. Both James & Davina have always been open and responsive to any questions I've had and would certainly recommend them. Focussing on her current skills around distractions is our next challenge, but at 6 months old she's doing great. Roll on Beginner's Plus .

Both James and Davina have a vast knowledge of dogs, they are great at understanding what's going on with your dog and adapt the training to bring out the best in your dog, with their style of training it makes it an enjoyable experience for both handler and dog which in my opinion is key, training has to be fun or there is no point for me, I have done both agility and obedience style training at Walkabout Hounds with my dogs and can highly recommend them xx

I couldn't recommend this team enough. We have gone through the beginner 1 class with our dog and the difference in the 6 weeks we have attended is amazing. The trainers are very friendly and are very experienced and will help you even though you don't realise you're struggling!!! I still have a long way to go with my very hyper and ignorant pooch but honestly the difference in him is amazing. Have really enjoyed it and had a laugh along the way (usually at my expense) Thanks James for all your advice and support!

We have just completed beginner 1 with our dog. We couldn’t be prouder with the progress he has made over the past 6 weeks. We have seen a huge difference in him and he has really enjoyed it! Had our first novice agility class yesterday. It was great fun for both me and my dog. We were the only ones totally new to it as the other five dogs in the class were on their second round of classes, but it was good to see how it should be done before tackling it ourselves. By the end of the hours session we were able to go over three fences and through a tunnel all without a lead! Really looking forward to next week's session.

Went down to meet James and the team. Spent an hour or so watching James train. What a breath of fresh air to watch. His interaction with the dog owners is fantastic, he's enthusiastic and entertaining which is great for the dogs and owners. Keeping the full attention of the dogs and there owners engaged for the full length of the lesson. Brilliant work you have a great set up and team keep up the good work.

Just Booked my lovely german shepherd pup Kaiser in for his next session beginner 1. the puppy class was great fun and taught me so much. he's now a boisterous 1 year old but still remembers everything he was taught by "auntie Amy" and he still loves her so sorry Amy you got us back again, looking forward to seeing you all again very soon and thankyou for all the BARF feeding advice you lot are amazing and so supportive with his diet. Brilliant training classes, real dog lovers, caring about your hounds. One to one sessions revealed so much about the behaviour of 1 of ours and what we needed as corrective action. Extremely knowledgeable , full of tips and alternatives. James , Davina and team are superb, can't rate them highly enough - we've had 9 hounds over the years from greyhound crosses to gsd to labs - these guys know their stuff and most importantly make training and walking a joy.

Darwin (Great Dane) loves his daycare days, he can be a bit of a handful being young , giant and giddy but I'm fully confident leaving him in Walkabouts care...and he's very tired after playing with lots of other dogs all day. I was originally really worried about leaving him in someone else's care, he's my fur-baby...so it took me a while to allow anyone else to care for him but me, but I'm glad I have now, happy pupster and happy owners :-) xxxx
